Can you imagine to start your own business with your academic skills or to commercialise your own research results in an entrepreneurial way?
If you are interested in self-employment or setting up your own business, you need not only subject-related expertise but also a business idea and basic knowledge in the areas of business start-ups, entrepreneurship and business administration. Management and leadership skills as well as the ability to communicate clearly and comprehensibly with people from different professional backgrounds are also important.
In order to evaluate the opportunities and risks of setting up a business and to further develop the necessary skills, the Graduate Academy in cooperation with the "K1 - Startup Service" offers the certificate programme "Start-up Management".
The programme addresses doctoral researchers and postdocs of Friedrich Schiller University who are interested in self-employment and business start-ups. A maximum of 8 persons per year are admitted to the programme. The certificate language can be either German or English.
The main focus is on the areas of "Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship" (2 workshops) and "Communication, Leadership and Management" (2 workshops). There is also a thematically open elective field (2 workshops). Participants can choose from a range of different workshops. You may find an overview of the courses that can be selected here.
The certificate programme comprises 6 workshops. It starts at the beginning of each winter semester and can be completed within two to four semesters.
You only have to pay the service charges for the individual workshops (between 10€ and 30€ per workshop). There will be no additional costs.
Applications must be submitted online via the application portal. Applicants will have to provide a motivation letter and a CV. Application deadline is 2025-06-15. Please apply for only one certificate programme.
