Application Deadline 2026-03-31
In many areas of research, especially in the life sciences as well as the humanities, cultural and social sciences, one realisation is increasingly gaining ground: The systematic consideration of the relevance of biological sex or socio-cultural gender can lead to a demonstrable improvement in the quality of research and the target group-specific applicability of research results. There are many succes-sful examples of gender and gender-sensitive research at the University of Jena. However, the potential in this area is far from exhausted.
The BMFTR-funded ‘Gender in Focus’ project's ‘Gender Aspects in Focus’ award therefore honours outstanding research work that incorporates aspects of sex and gender. The award is intended to support the winners in continuing their gender-sensitive research and presenting it effectively to the scientific community.
The prize is awarded once a year in two categories:
The 2026 awards for doctoral theses and advanced researchers will be presented during the Dies Academicus (26th June 2026).
The prize will cover the costs of scientific communication measures, publication costs and travel expenses in the amount awarded.
The award winners will receive all necessary information from the coordination centre of the BMFTR-project ‘Gender in Focus’.
Doctoral candidates and advanced researchers who have completed a research project related to gender at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in the past three years are cordially invited to apply for the award.
Please submit the following documents with your application:
The applications submitted are assessed by a selection committee made up of members of the project steering group and people with specialist expertise from the LIFE, LIGHT and LIBERTY profile areas.
