IMPULSE - project

Support programme for early and advanced postdocs to apply for own third-party funds

Objective

Gaining own third-party funds is an important step for career development of young researchers. The success of a grant application strongly depends on preliminary scientific results. To support our postdocs we provide financial support for the preparation of grant applications.

Programme for early postdocs

FSU postdocs who obtained their PhD no more than three years ago are eligible to apply within the programme line for early postdocs. The programme for early postdocs supports projects that should result in a grant proposal for third-party funding after a period of up to 12 month. It is possible to apply for funding up to a total amount of 10,000 euros for academic employees, student assistants and material and travel expenses.

Please note: The postdoc‘s immediate superiors must confirm that the applicant will be employed at FSU for the entire period of financial support. Intramural double funding at the university hospital / FSU is excluded.

Programme for advanced postdocs

This programme supports advanced postdocs to prepare grant applications in order to establish their own research groups (e.g. Emmy Noether-Programme, Heisenberg Programme, Marie Curie Fellowship, ERC, no DFG Individual Research Grant!). FSU postdocs who obtained their PhD no more than six years ago are eligible to apply. The programme for advanced postdocs supports projects that should result in an application for third-party funding within a period of up to two years. It is possible to apply for funding up to 20,000 euros for academic employees, student assistants, and material and travel expenses.

Please note: Applicants should have independently obtained funding for at least one project through a competitive process.
The postdoc‘s immediate superior must confirm that the applicant will be employed at FSU for the entire period of financial support. Intramural double funding at the university hospital / FSU is excluded.

Project selection

The selection is made based on independent assessments of the originality of the research idea, the quality of the work programme and the likelihood that a suitable project proposal will be drawn up within the funding period. The assessment also considers the achievements to date (university degree, doctorate, publications, and procurement of third-party funding, academic awards) and takes account of the length of the applicant’s academic career.
